Canyon Reef

 

» From 3m to 21m deep.

» Fantastic rock formation, bizarre rocky landscape with many canyons. Cannot be explored with a single dive, as the “Canyon Reef” is just too big and extensive. 

» Principal species sighted: Moray ells, anemones, cleaner shrimps, Scorpion fish, Arrow Crabs, Sea Spiders, Garden Ells, Barracudas, Bogue, Damselfish, White Breams, Rays…

Easy Track

 

» From 3m to 19m,

» This dive site is the perfect spot for getting started – for beginners as well as for refresher courses or check-dives. Slowly the coast drops to a maximum depth of 18m. You find large rocks, underneath which countless crustaceans.

» Principal species sighted: Trumpetfish, Parrot fish, Turkish Wrasse, Striped Mullet, Anemones, Garden Eels, Cleaner Shrimps, Sting rays…

Eastern Rock’s

 

» From 10m to 22m deep.

» A mix between a wall and very big rocks. Perfect to find many different animals in one spot.

» Principal species sighted: Morays, Comb Groupers, Barracudas, Anemones, Shrimps, Parrot Fish, Caw Breams, Octopus, Garden eels…

Moray’s Wall

 

» From 10m to 26m deep.

»On this wall with a maximum depth of 26m, there is something for every diver to discover at any depth – especially taking your time to check out the countless cracks in the wall is worthwhile.

» Principal species sighted: Brown Moray, Black Moray, Fangtooth Moray, Anemones, cleaner Shrimps, Barracudas, big swarms of Atlantic damselfish, Turkish Wrasse, Arrow Crabs…

Ponta da Oliveira

 

» From 10m to 30m deep.

» Located directly at the border with the Underwater Natural Park.

» Ponta da Oliveira is a steep wall which gradually falls into the sea like a big tongue of lava.               This lava formation creates big walls full of holes, ideal for the animals to hide!

» Principal species sighted: Comb groupers, Big anemones, Morays, Blacktail combers…

The Cave

 

» 0m – 10m deep.

» Located directly at the border with the Underwater Natural Park.

» The cave is about 50m long and 20m wide and the exit is visible all the time. We can find several air bubbles in the top of it. The last bubble is big enough to reach the surface and enjoy the geology of the cave.

» Principal species sighted: Dancing shrimps, Red reef Lobsters, Black coral, Umbrella sea snails, Sponges, Arrow crabs…

Arena

 

» From 10m to 25m deep.

» Underwater Natural Park area.

» Arena is a volcanic reef with a big pinnacle in the middle. We can find beautiful rock formations and a little tunnel that we can cross.

» Principal species sighted: Big group of breams, Comb groupers, Parrot fish, Garden eels, Mullets…

Sardine Plateau

 

» From 10m to 27m deep.

» Underwater Natural Park area

» Sardine Plateau starts with lots of little and big rock’s, from the shallow area until the deeper side where you have the sand. Eventually you will find a wall that goes until 27m.

» Principal species sighted: Sardines, Barracudas, Groups of breams, yellow sponge, Big anemones, Sting rays…

Garajau

 

» From 11m to 30m deep.

»Underwater Natural Park area.

» Garajau is one of the top spots of Madeira! Some big groupers have the territory here so the chance to see them is very big. There are big rocks that create pathways, tunnels and holes that are home to many animals.

» Principal species sighted: Dusky grouper, Comb grouper, Barracudas, Amber Jacks, Hogfishes, Breams, Grunts, Trumpet fish…

T-Reef

 

» From 13m to 30m deep.

» Underwater Natural Park area.

» The T-reef is also known as “Mamas” for the local people. We can find two big underwater pinnacles in the middle of the sand. As there is anything else to hide around, a lot of fish find their protection in this place, so we can find a big concentration of life in this spot.

» Principal species sighted: Barracudas, Morays, Hogfish, Sting rays, Trigger fish, Sea snails…

Corveta Afonso Cerqueira

 

» From 12m to 33m deep and 85m long.

» Underwater Natural Park located in front of the clift “Cabo Girão”.

» Afonso Cerqueira corvette (F488) was made in 1973 and entered the service of the Navy on 28th of June of 1975. This ship had the function to carry out surveillance and rescue missions in the Azores, Madeira and the Exclusive Economic Zone. The ship also performed national and international training exercises with other naval forces. On 11th of March of 2015 ended the operational life of the ship and on 4th of September of 2018 was sunk in Madeira Island. The wreck creates an artificial reef and provides habitat to a lot of marine species, and it is prepared for divers with a lot of entrances all around the wreck.

Blue Hole

 

» From 9m to 22m deep.

» In front of “Reis Magos” beach.

» This spot is a reef with the top at 9m deep where you can go through a big tunnel which ends at 18m deep at the “Blue Hole”. The shallow part of the tunnel is full of Trumpet fishes and at the deepest part we can find big groups of breams and grunts as well as many prints of Rays in the sand.

» Principal species sighted: Trumpet fishes, big group of breams, Butterfly Rays, Sting Rays, Morays…

Baixa da Cruz

 

» From 3m to 32m deep.

» In front of Machico Village.

» Baixa da Cruz is a big underwater pinnacle. Starting in a little pic at 3m going until 32m where we can find rock and sandy areas. In the begging, in shallow water, we can see a lot of colourful animals and when we start going deeper, we can start seeing black coral and big group of fishes.
